Activities

Walking

Enjoy the many trails from the door of this Derbyshire bed and breakfast. Walkers and climbers are always welcome and can enjoy an unrivaled choice of way marked footpaths offering routs to suit every requirement such as limestone dales and jagged grit stone edges. The high spots of Mam Tor and Kinder Scout and the start of the Pennine Way at Edale are all 10 minutes from Cannon Croft. We have maps of local walks available. Hathersage also boasts three walking / climbing shops just in case you have forgotten any thing

Climbing

Cannon Croft is ideally situated for climbers as we have Stanage and Froggatt edges literally on our doorstep, both of which offer routs of all grades. There are over 850 rock-climbing routes on the four-mile escarpment of Stanage Edge.

Swimming

Hathersage has on out door pool, which is heated.

Caving

Enjoy some of Britain's deepest and longest caving routs, going well beyond the famous show caves of Castleton.

Cycling and Horse riding

Converted railway tracks offer traffic free routes for horse riders and cyclists. Bikes can be hired at these tracks for the day, or bring your own we can store them safely here at Cannon Croft.

Customs and carnivals

Well dressing, first recorded in the 14th century is now a custom found in over 50 villages in the Peak District, the dates of which are, below, or here at Cannon Croft. It is believed that the tradition originated from the pagan custom of giving thanks for the gift of fresh water. The pictures created for the well dressings use only natural materials, which can include flower petals berries leaves etc. During carnival week each village displays the picture, holds a service to bless the "well" crowns a queen and has a parade, Hathersage carnival week is usually the early part of July.
